PICK #5 - MATT CARTER (P)

- Drafted out of Girard High School out of Girard, KS.
- Remains unsigned

PICK #6 - F.P. HAYNES - (P)
F.P. Haynes
Anaheim
Rangers
Age: 20B/T: R/R
Born: Carrollton, TX
Position(s): P (SP2)
View Hardball Dynasty Profile
- Drafted out of North Lake College
- Signed on 5/12/09 to a minor league contract with a $3,540,000 signing bonus.
- Assigned to Rookie League

THE GOOD: Haynes will be a starting pitcher but could possibly be used in a long-relief role depending on the organizational needs. He will have good stamina to be useful in both rolls but may require a tandem if he's used in a starting role. He has three pitches that he will use. He will have a great four-seam fastball which will have some good velocity behind it, as well as a great slider and decent curve ball. He will have above-average control of his pitches. If he needs more time to develop in the minors, Haynes will not be upset if he's sent down due to his near perfect make up level. He will also have great patience.

THE BAD: He is not the most durable pitcher in the league, and he will require a decent bit of rest in between starts. He is pretty healthy, and that will bode well for the Rangers, though he will hit the DL a bit.

RECAP: A great pick at the number six spot, Haynes will be a mainstay for the Rangers for the duration of his career.

PICK #7 - JIN MENG (P)
ST. LOUIS REDBIRDS

- Drafted out of A. Crawford Mosley High School in Panama City, FL.

PICK #8- LUTHER PEARSON (P)
Luther Pearson
Augusta
Timbermen
Age: 19B/T: L/L
Born: Norridge, IL
Position(s): P (SP1)
View Hardball Dynasty Profile
- Drafted out of Triton College
- Signed on 5/12/09 to a minor league contract with a $3,350,000 signing bonus.
- Assigned to Rookie League

THE GOOD: Though Pearson has a long way to go in meeting his potential, he will end up a second or third starter overall for the Timberman. He will definitely be an innings eater for Augusta and will have great control of the four pitches in his arsenal. His number one pitch will be a slider that will feature great movement, and his four-seam fastball will have decent velocity. The curveball and cutter will round out his pitches. Pearson will have great make up which will help him to get through tough situations. He will be more dominant against lefties than he will righties, so this may limit his success.

THE BAD: He will have a hard time facing right handed batters, as his rating will not be very good. He will lean towards being a flyball hitter, so as long as he's in a deep park, the damage will not be as bad. His lower health rating will give him a bit of time on the disabled list as well.

RECAP: Pearson will be a successful second or third slot in the rotation, but he will struggle a bit on a daily basis. You can figure that lefties will not have much success against him. Overall, he will do pretty well.

PICK #9- J.D. COLLINS (3B)
NASHVILLE SOUNDS
(no picture available)
- Drafted out of Longmont Christian High School in Eaton, CO
- Remains unsigned

-> Unfortunately, I do not have ratings for this player
